The kids are back in school, which means no more family trips for a while — but also more time to work on Gumnut! Based on feedback from early users, I spent August building out some new foundational features and polishing the user experience in the web app.
Browsing filters
Photos, album, and map views gained composable People, Date, Album, and media-type filters. You can combine them to build precise views — for example, photos of two people from a particular year and location. Or in the following example, your favorite photos with 5 specific people in a particular date range.

Filters are fast, powerful, and bookmarkable. Like all of Gumnut’s features, they’re designed to work perfectly on both mobile and desktop browsers, and are available through the API and to AI assistants.

Favorites
By popular demand, favorites are here. Imported photos retain their existing favorite or 1-5 rating score, and can be updated in Gumnut. Favorite filters are composable with all of the other filters, and are available through the API and to AI assistants.

Editing and versioning
Gumnut now supports the concept of editing assets: an asset can be non-destructively cropped and rotated, or completely transformed by an external editor or AI prompt. Either way, Gumnut preserves the earlier versions of your assets, so that you can always revert back.
Editing is integrated into the Immich web and mobile clients, is available via API, and will be coming to the Gumnut web app in the next couple of weeks.

User experience and performance
I love apps that feel fast and polished. In August, I took the time to make improvements throughout the web experience. I’m not going to list all of the updates — for that, look at the detailed changelog. Instead, I’ll include some screenshots of the current desktop and mobile experience for Gumnut:

One additional thing you can’t see from these screenshots is that Gumnut is FAST. Browsing data now restores across visits and refreshes in the background while keeping usable results visible.
